Crowding

Spacing and Gaps
Gaps can come from small or missing teeth, or habits such as thumb-sucking. Closing them improves appearance and reduces food trapping and gum soreness.
Overbite
The upper front teeth cover too much of the lower teeth, which can wear the lower teeth and irritate the gums over time.
Crossbite
Some upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth, which can cause uneven wear or a jaw that shifts to one side. Braces help the bite meet evenly.
Underbite
The lower front teeth sit in front of the upper teeth. Braces may correct this when tooth position is the cause, while jaw-related cases may need a specialist referral.
Open Bite
The front teeth do not meet when the back teeth close, making it hard to bite into food. It is sometimes linked to thumb-sucking or tongue habits.
Protruding Front Teeth

Types of Braces Available

Clear Aligners

Braces Treatment Process
Treatment follows six stages and commonly takes 18 to 30 months, depending on the complexity of your case.
Consultation
Discuss your goals and go through your treatment plan with Dr Low. For younger patients, parents are involved throughout.
Fitting Your Braces
Fitting takes one to two hours and no injection is needed. Expect some soreness for three to five days, eased with soft food and orthodontic wax. See our tips on makanan lembut untuk braces. Aligner patients receive their first set of trays instead.
Adjustment Appointments
Visits every four to eight weeks, around 20 to 30 minutes each, to adjust the wire and replace ties. Aligner patients attend less frequent reviews.
Monitoring Progress

Braces Removal
Once your teeth reach the planned position, the brackets are removed and teeth polished in about an hour. Most patients feel pressure rather than pain.
Retainers
Retainers stop teeth drifting back. You may have a fixed wire behind the front teeth, a removable clear retainer, or both, with long-term night-time wear recommended.

FAQs About Braces
Braces treatment commonly takes 18 to 30 months. Mild cases may finish in 12 to 18 months, while complex cases can take longer depending on how far the teeth need to move and how regularly you attend appointments.
Fitting braces does not usually hurt and needs no injection. Soreness for three to five days afterwards is normal, and later adjustments cause milder discomfort. Soft food and over-the-counter pain relief help.
There is no upper age limit for braces. Healthy gums and bone matter more than age. Adult teeth may move more slowly, and many adults choose ceramic braces or clear aligners.
